Design Brief
"LED based lighting solutions for urban households which promote sustainable behaviors"
The competition invites undergraduate and graduate industrial design students to create innovative lighting solutions using LED technology for household applications specifically targeting at the needs of Indian market. The solutions should enable personalized mood environments with creative application of light and increased emotional connect. The solutions should also reflect innovative use of LED technology and new materials which promote consciousness towards energy consumption and environmental impact.
Eligibility
The competition invites entries from undergraduate and graduate students of industrial design/ product design/ architecture/ interior design. The participant should be a bonafide student at the time of participation and is required to upload a scanned copy of student id proof/ bonafide certificate from the institute.
Only individual participation with one entry per participant is accepted.
Entry Details
The participant can upload his/her entry after the registration. Register here. The entry can be uploaded in the form of one A2 size poster in .jpeg format with a high resolution (maximum size 2Mb) and should contain the following :
* Research of user requirements and market potential for the proposed design
* Detailed description of design and its construction
* High quality renderings/ photographs of design
* Description of proposed materials and manufacturing methods
Dates
Entry submission dates: 01st June to 31st August 2010
(All entries should reach us latest by 5:00 pm IST on 31st August 2010)
Declaration of results: 30th September 2010
Judging Criteria
* Degree of Innovation in the use of light as a phenomenon to create environments
* Technology: creative application of LED technology with new materials, and response to the demands of energy and environment issues.
* Aesthetics: design solutions should reflect an understanding of their cultural contexts and aesthetic consideration
* Manufacturability: consideration of cost effective materials and manufacturing processes
* Impact on Environment: proposed designs should be energy conscious and employ materials and manufacturing processes which have least harmful impact on the environment.

Awards
The winner will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1.0 Lac + 6 months internship with the Industrial Design Centre of CG Global R&D
1st runner up will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000
Results will be published online and the winners will be informed personally via. e-mail or phone.
Competition Entry Rules and Guidelines
To ensure the originality and property rights of received entries the competition will have eligibility rules and Terms & Conditions
* Competition is open to all students pursuing Industrial Design and the related majors in design colleges, academies, universities, institutions and postgraduate schools
* Students are required to provide a student identity proof, along with their entries
* The contest committee will hold the rights to evaluate the qualification for any participants. For those who provide false information, the committee will reserve the right to cancel their application at anytime during the competition.
