“Big D: Discovery, Dreams, Design” is a fitting slogan for the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD) Annual International Design Conference in Dallas, Texas from Sept. 27- Oct. 2.

Much more than a meeting, APLD is planning a spectacular conference highlighting the hottest trends in landscape design. Workshops and lectures span such timely topics as creating sustainable designs using 3D modeling tools, marketing through social media, discovering and using new plants and water-wise irrigation practices. “Dallas has always been a city of innovation and boldness." says Patricia St. John, president of APLD. “Those attending the conference will be impressed by the dramatic approach landscape designers have taken to incorporate sustainable initiatives, art and horticulture in their gardens.”

Hundreds of professional landscape designers from the United States and Europe are expected to attend APLD’s conference being held at the Fairmont Hotel in the heart of Dallas’s Arts District. 

The opening reception being held at the Nasher Sculpture Center is being catered by Wolfgang Puck. Tours of some of Dallas’s finest gardens are also planned.

“Dallas is a modern city, with a pioneering spirit, and this makes it an exciting destination for our conference. We will be touring a variety of public and private gardens and each reflects a unique perspective,” Denise Calabrese, executive director of APLD. “The conference is a chance to gather, learn and get energized.”

The Association of Professional Landscape Designers is an international organization representing over 1,300 members in the United States, Canada, Great Britain and other countries. Its goal is to advance landscape design as an independent profession and to promote the recognition of landscape designers as highly qualified, dedicated professionals. APLD was founded in 1989 and is headquartered in Harrisburg, Pa.
