Singapore Design Festival 2009, a biennial platform, aims to promote design and the design industry in Singapore, enhance the nation as a vibrant and creative international design city and destination, whilst at the same time providing a gateway to Asia’s design community, and Asia to the world.
2009 marks a special year for the Singapore Design Festival with Singapore hosting the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) World Design Congress 2009, and INDEX: Award Exhibition 2009 as the first INDEX: Partner City. The Festival will also present the best of design in Singapore with the President's Design Award 2009 Ceremony and Exhibition, Singapore Creative Circle Awards and more.
Singapore Design Festival 2009 is a meeting place for designers, design thought leaders and design clients of the world to establish "Design 2050". It is inclusive in outlook, featuring prominent international and Singapore creative personalities and outstanding works at events including country presentations, conferences, exhibitions, workshops, open houses, product launches and award ceremonies. The 2009 Festival is expected to attract over 100,000 people participating in more than 100 activities island-wide
About the Singapore Design Festival
Initiated in 2005 by the DesignSingapore Council, the Singapore Design Festival is a biennial platform to promote design and the design industry in Singapore, creating opportunities for networking and the exchange of ideas, and enhancing Singapore’s image as a vibrant and creative international design city.
The theme for this year’s Singapore Design Festival 2009 is “Design 2050: Possibilities for Tomorrow” – which looks to inspire everyone to consider and examine scenarios of how life can be different in the future by design. The Festival hopes to start important conversations around design and the various aspects of human lives, be it economically, socially, or environmentally as well as celebrate the past and present of design as invaluable input and inspiration for innovation by our future generations of designers.
The broad spectrum of events and activities of the Singapore Design Festival 2009 include Singapore showcases, trade events, major international presentations, award ceremonies, product launches, tours, open houses, talks and workshops such as:

· INDEX:Award ‘Design to Improve Life’ Exhibition (Denmark) at the Skypark, the Plaza and Level 1, VivoCity, 10 November – 9 December 2009
· Portfolio Show For Young Designers at Halls 402 & 403, Suntec City, 24 November – 27 November 2009
· Japan Design Exhibition at the Japan Creative Centre, 4 Nassim Road, 16 November – 30 January 2009
· ECAL Luxury and Design Exhibition (Switzerland) at Earl Lu Gallery, ICAS Gallery 2, LASALLE College of the Arts, 20 November 2009 – 9 January 2010
· Abundant Australia Exhibition at NAFA Galleries 1 & 2, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, 30 November 2009 – 7 February 2010.

Where
Key Festival activities will be presented at 4 Festival Hubs this year, namely the old City Hall Building, VivoCity, Ion Orchard and Suntec City, with other Festival activities taking place city-wide across a variety of locations throughout Singapore.
