Kandissi Sofa, 1978
Studio Alchimia, Italy
Painted lacquered natural wood cut-out decoration, fabric
The Kandissi divan is a part of Mendini's series of ‘redesigns furniture’.
Believing that Modern Design had reached the end of its natural life and that designers could no longer create innovative designs in respect of what had gone before, Mendini "redesigned" acknowledged classics.
Doing that, he attempted to demonstrate that, among other things, the intellectual content of a design can be derived solely from applied decoration.
