This is an opportunity to join a team of experienced design and research staff and emerging researchers in contributing towards Swinburne's rise to prominence in higher education environment. The industrial design department teaches at the undergraduate and postgraduate level Masters and participates in the PhD programme as well as the Product Design Engineering programme  jointly taught with the Faculty of Engineering. We have a widely-respected Industry Based Learning programme, sustainability is a leading theme in our courses, and we have had great success in national and industry sponsored design awards as well as exchange and study-abroad programs with European, Asian and North American schools of design. As a member of the industrial design department you will be part of the 3D group, which includes interior design. As we look forward to new course offerings in the future and develop our curriculum we will be exploring among other issues the interactions between industrial and interior design, particularly in this era of new technologies.

The Faculty is home to many designers and scholars with international reputations. These include Prof. Dori Tunstall and Prof. Norman Sheehan who lead our work in design anthropology and indigenous knowledge, Prof. Allan Whitfield who heads the National Institute for Design Research, and Prof. Frank Fisher, one of Australia's leading educators in sustainability, as well as Prof. Per Mollerup in communications design and Prof. Ken Friedman (our dean) who works in design theory. We have a robust and highly successful doctoral programme, a growing research profile, and a strong contingent of active scholars who serve on journal and publishing boards around the world.
