Tapio Anttila’s Tip pendant light wins the GOOD DESIGN Award
(10/Jan/2012)

Interior designer Tapio Anttila’s Tip pendant light for Keraplast Interior has won the esteemed international GOOD DESIGN Award. The award is conferred annually by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. This is the fourth time that Anttila’s design has received the GOOD DESIGN Award: in 2010 the Upside multi-purpose table was awarded and Tuohi product series got the Green GOOD DESIGN Award and in 2005 the Haiku chair was awarded.

Anttila’s impressive Tip pendant light combines the latest in LED technology with the traditional acrylic material. The thin acrylic sheet, 50 mm thick in the middle and tapering towards the edges, disperses light beautifully and also reflects it upwards. The tip in the middle of the sheet recalls a drop of liquid hitting a surface just before it starts to spread out. Tip’s diameter is 600mm. It was launched at the  Habitare fair in 2010.

The GOOD DESIGN Award is the oldest design award in the world. The award advances high-quality, visionary design and innovative product concepts. In 2010 the recognition was granted to over 500 product designs and graphics representing 36 nations. The GOOD DESIGN Award was founded in Chicago in 1950 by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr.
